A proud Cybertruck owner from Colorado, known online as M0unt41, just got a shock from his insurance company—and it wasn’t a good one. His premium suddenly jumped by 23% this month, and there was no warning, no explanation. Nothing.
Now, he’s wondering: “Is this because I drive a Tesla?”
Welcome to the wild ride of being a Cybertruck owner in 2025.
“I’m Not Giving It Up—Let Them Be Mad”
M0unt41 didn’t stay silent. He went straight to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum to share what happened. In a post titled “Tesla insurance rates increase,” he wrote:
“Mine just went up 23%. Are other people seeing this as well? Does the spike have anything to do with vandalism?
I’m not giving mine up because screw the protesters… I will keep paying just to piss them off.”
It’s bold. It’s emotional. And honestly, it’s relatable.
This isn’t just about money—it’s about principle. He loves his Cybertruck, and no wave of hate or vandalism is going to make him back down.
Hate Crimes and Higher Costs?
If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Tesla vehicles—especially the Cybertruck—have been targeted more frequently in recent months. From being keyed in parking lots to being spray-painted with insults, the hate is real.
Now, the fear is this: Insurance companies might be quietly reacting to that hate by raising premiums for Cybertruck owners.
M0unt41 said he’s currently insured by State Farm, but when he tried to get a quote from Progressive, it was even worse. So it’s not just one company—it’s multiple.
“It seems like there is an increase across the board,” he added.
Another Owner, Even Bigger Spike: “33% Hike Out of Nowhere”
Turns out, M0unt41 isn’t alone. Another Cybertruck driver, who goes by Gigahorse, shared a very similar story.
“Progressive Insurance’s 6-month policy renewal was this last Thursday, and my insurance premium went up 33%.”
Let that sink in—33%. For a vehicle that hasn’t been in any accidents and hasn’t made any claims.
And just like M0unt41, Gigahorse also shopped around for better rates. The results? Every quote was higher.
“I’m looking for other options, but nothing much better so far.”
It’s frustrating, it’s confusing, and it’s a gut punch to Tesla fans who just want to enjoy their futuristic trucks without drama.
Steady for 16 Months—Then, Boom
What makes this story even more strange is the timing. Gigahorse said he bought his Cybertruck in December 2023, and for over 16 months, his insurance premium was completely stable.
No increases. No issues. Then out of nowhere: a 33% hike.
“Insurance rates have been steady on the Cybertruck for 16 months, and all of a sudden this month they go up 33%?????????? Has to do with all the news, etc.”
He’s not the only one who thinks so. Many Tesla fans now believe the media coverage of Cybertruck hate, vandalism, and protests is driving insurance companies to treat Cybertruck owners as higher-risk clients.
What Now for Cybertruck Owners?
Nobody likes surprise costs. Especially not ones tied to a vehicle they love.
But for many Cybertruck owners, this isn’t just about money—it’s about being targeted for their choice. It’s about staying loyal to a brand and a vision, even when it costs more.
And as M0unt41 said so clearly:
“I’m not giving mine up because screw the protesters… I will keep paying just to piss them off.”
Whether it’s Tesla pride or just plain stubbornness, Cybertruck owners seem ready to ride out the storm—even if it means paying more for the ride.
