Tesla releases software update 2025.2: Here is what’s new for all Tesla models

Tesla’s latest software update (2025.2) includes new features for everyday users, like hands-free trunk and front trunk (frunk) opening for Android phones, a sound for rear cross-traffic alerts, and better charging with third-party chargers.

But there are also changes to Tesla’s “Service Mode” and “Service Mode+,” which are used to fix car problems.

What is Service Mode?

Service Mode is a free tool for all Tesla owners that helps diagnose car issues. However, you should be careful when using it.

Changes to regular Service Mode:

  • Brake Burnishing: This helps break in new brakes. The process has been made easier and doesn’t require stopping completely as often. This works for all Tesla models.
  • Charge Port Calibration: This helps fix issues with the charging port opening or closing. This was previously a complex tool but is now easier to use. This is only for older Model S and Model X cars.

What is Service Mode+?

Service Mode+ is a more advanced version that requires a paid subscription to Tesla’s special software (ToolBox3) and a computer connection.

Changes to Service Mode+:

  • Accessories Panel: This new panel makes it easier to install accessories like tow hitches, power liftgates, and spoilers. Technicians no longer have to manually enter complex codes. This is for Model 3 and Model Y cars.
  • Signal Viewer Panel: This new panel shows live graphs of electrical signals in the car, helping technicians diagnose electrical problems. This is for all cars with the newer AMD Ryzen computer.
  • Noise Recording Panel: This panel, which helps find the source of unusual noises in the car, has been improved. Recordings are now shorter (30 seconds), and downloading them is more reliable. This is only for the Cybertruck.

These updates are mainly for Tesla technicians, but they also help Tesla owners fix their own cars. Tesla has even started selling some car parts directly to customers.
