Tesla Breaks Silence: Model S and X Not Going Anywhere—Refresh Coming Soon!

For months, rumors have been swirling about Tesla potentially pulling the plug on two iconic vehicles—the Model S and Model X. Sales numbers have fallen dramatically, especially since the arrival of Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck, fueling whispers that these flagship cars might soon disappear.

But in a surprising twist, Tesla has officially put an end to that speculation. And they’re promising fans something even better—a brand-new update to both the Model S and Model X later this year.

Tesla’s Flagship Vehicles Face a Sales Crisis

Tesla’s once groundbreaking vehicles—the Model S and Model X—have struggled to stay relevant in recent years. Despite having the ability to produce 100,000 cars per year, Tesla is finding it difficult even to sell 50,000 Model S and X cars worldwide.

Since the Cybertruck started hitting the streets, demand for the Model S and X has plummeted even further. Currently, Tesla is barely selling half of what it can actually produce.

Tesla’s Big Announcement: “We’ll Give Them Some Love”

Speaking on the popular podcast, Ride the Lightning: The Unofficial Tesla Podcast, Tesla VP and chief engineer Lars Moravy delivered a message Tesla fans were eager to hear.

“We’re definitely not discontinuing the Model S and X,” he confirmed. “In fact, we’re planning to give them some love later this year.”

Lars explained that the 2021 refresh had already significantly improved both cars. But now, Tesla wants to upgrade them again—using premium materials and new features currently available in their more popular models, the Model 3 and Model Y.

“We’re Committed”: Tesla Stands Behind Its Classics

Not only did Lars shut down rumors of discontinuation, but he also emphasized the importance of the Model S and X as key parts of Tesla’s image.

“As Elon Musk mentions, there’s more to these vehicles than sales numbers,” he explained. “The Model S and X are essential to Tesla’s identity. They showcase our best technology and luxury features. Elon remains committed to them for the long haul.”

He even quoted Musk’s own perspective on the cars:

“Elon Musk says there’s still huge value in these flagship vehicles. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about innovation.”

A Lifeline or a Last Chance?

Tesla’s decision to refresh the Model S and X sends a powerful message. Yet, the need for Tesla to publicly deny rumors of discontinuation hints at just how much these cars are struggling in today’s competitive EV market.

But why the sharp decline in sales?

  • Is the futuristic Cybertruck overshadowing older Tesla models?
  • Are buyers losing interest in premium EV sedans and SUVs, preferring more affordable Tesla offerings?

Tesla’s Fans Can Breathe Easier—For Now

Tesla’s reassurance about the upcoming refresh is excellent news for enthusiasts worried about the fate of their favorite luxury EVs. It confirms Tesla’s ongoing investment in these beloved vehicles, at least in the near future.

Yet, the fact that the company felt compelled to publicly dispel discontinuation rumors suggests that Tesla itself recognizes something needs to change to win back buyers.

For now, at least, the Model S and Model X aren’t going anywhere—but will Tesla’s planned refresh breathe new life into their sales?

We’ll have to wait and see. Let us know what you think in the comments.
