The wait is over. Tesla has just dropped a brand-new version of its refreshed Model Y “Juniper” in the U.S., and it’s finally more affordable.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, Tesla officially launched the Long Range All-Wheel-Drive trim of the new Model Y — offering top-tier specs at a lower price point. The new trim starts at $48,990 before any incentives or tax credits.
And yes — it qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, bringing the effective starting price down to just $41,490 for many buyers.
This is the first time the U.S. has access to a non-Launch Edition of the new Model Y.
So if you’ve been eyeing the Juniper refresh but waiting for a more budget-friendly option… this is it.
What’s New in This Model Y Trim?
The new Long Range AWD trim still packs a punch. Here’s what you get:
- 327 miles of range
- Top speed: 125 MPH
- 0-60 MPH in 4.6 seconds
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive
- Upgraded design and features from the Juniper refresh
It’s nearly identical to the more expensive Launch Series version — the main difference is the slightly slower 0-60 time (just 0.5 seconds difference), and the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package isn’t included by default.
If you want FSD, you’ll need to:
- Pay $8,000 up front
- Or subscribe for $99/month
Still, considering how much you’re saving up front, this new trim offers serious value.
Why This Matters for Tesla (and You)
This launch couldn’t have come at a better time.
Earlier this week, Tesla reported lower-than-expected deliveries for Q1 — partially due to production line changes for the new Model Y. Now that the lines are up and running and production is ramping, Tesla is clearly ready to push more of these refreshed SUVs out to customers.
With a new, more accessible version now on sale, we could be seeing the start of a strong comeback for Tesla in Q2.
Inventory numbers are still high — production outpaced deliveries by about 22,000 vehicles last quarter — but that gap may close fast as these new, lower-priced Model Ys hit delivery centers across the country.
All eyes will be on Tesla’s earnings call on April 22, where we’re likely to learn more about how this refreshed Model Y rollout will impact the rest of 2025.
